753.1 University Golf Course


A. Background

The Furman University Golf Course is a public course which is open to the general community as well as the Furman University community. Therefore, regulations are necessary to control use, to ensure safety, and to make the golf course enjoyable to all who may use the facility.


B. Policy

The Furman University Golf Course provides a home course for the university golf teams and a recreational facility for the Furman community, and it serves as a public golf course in Greenville.  All golfers who play the course are subject to published regulations obtainable at the pro shop or on the website. Furman University does not assume responsibility for thefts or accidents caused by faulty decisions and risks taken by golfers, players, or visitors.


C. Guidelines

1. Play on the golf course shall be in accordance with the standards prescribed by United States Golf Association, referred to as the rules of golf and etiquette. Orderly play and proper course maintenance are shared responsibilities of the player and the golf course management.

2. The golf course is open daily with hours of operation posted on the website.  The course is closed on December 24 and 25.

3. Administrative management of the golf course is the responsibility of the Director of Auxiliary Services. The Director of Golf is responsible for golf course operations and reports to the Director of Auxiliary Services.

4. Full-time undergraduate students, faculty and staff play on a reduced greens fee basis. 

5. Memberships are issued on an annual July 1 through June 30 basis, in the following categories:

a.  Full-time undergraduate students are eligible for membership for a reduced annual fee.

b.  Faculty and staff are eligible for membership (individual or family) for a reduced annual fee. Payroll deduction is available. Adjunct faculty, temporary staff and part-time staff are not eligible for a reduced annual membership.

c.  Retired faculty and staff are eligible for  free golf rounds, fees for which will be charged to a university budget. 

6.  Tee times must be scheduled in advance by all golfers, including faculty, staff, students and members.

7.  Any person failing to abide by course regulations may have playing privileges withdrawn.
